Basset Owner Rule #1 - You must give up all claims and rights to any/all pieces of comfortable furniture! Authors: Beavis & BoAs always, we are in need of Foster Homes for the Bassets, until they can be permanently placed. Without foster homes available, our dogs must stay in shelters and risk being put to sleep. Please help if you can. Thanks! |
About Basset Rescue
High Country Basset Hound Rescue and Adoption Service Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to the welfare of Basset Hounds. Founded in 1981 and incorporated in the State of Colorado in 1982, it is operated solely by volunteers. In the year 2001 the High Country Basset Hound Rescue and Adoption Service upgraded its web site and changed its Internet domain name to www.coloradobassetrescue.com.
The general state of the economy, changing lifestyles, and moves to apartments are some of the reasons for the abundance of abandoned Basset Hounds. Rescued Bassets are from pounds or shelters, or are strays whose owners cannot be found, or are relinquished directly by owners who no longer want them. Each rescued Basset is taken to a veterinarian and is checked for parasites, immunized, spayed or neutered, and provided with an identification tag and collar. It is then placed in a home-hopefully one which will adopt it after the four week trial period. If a potential home is not available, the dog is placed in a foster home until a permanent one can be found.
Basset Rescue has the welfare of the Bassets in mind and Rescue is very careful about the homes selected for the dogs. Because a Rescue dog has already lost the security of the original and some have been either abused, abandoned, or neglected, the need is imperative to place them in stable homes where they will be allowed to live out the rest of their lives in a loving, caring environment. Being shifted from one home to another, or worse yet, to a pound or shelter is confusing and can be traumatic for the dog, in some cases causing severe behavior problems. For this reason we look for homes where there is not s lot of stress (i.e., recent divorce or separation, constant moving, or a changing lifestyle).
